The Passiv Report

Green dormitory at Emory & Henry College becomes largest Passivhaus/Pasive House building in the US.

The final high performance details are in, the blower door has blown, the ribbon has been cut, and Passiv Science’s green dorm project, Hickory Hall (Emory and Henry College, Virginia) is now the nation’s largest Passivhaus/Passive House building: 40,000 square feet, 61 units, 117 beds.

See our case study of the Passivhaus green dorm here.

The Passivhaus dorm will use 74% less energy than a code-built building, and, at just $118.75/SF, cost less to build than its conventionally-built twin dorm, Elm Hall.

Emory and Henry College hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony last Thursday (March 21) and TriCities.com picked up the story, including an interview with my business partner Steve Strauss of Structures Design/Build.

Here’s the story: “Emory & Henry debuts ‘passive house’ residence hall.”

Enjoy!
